Amtrak currently provides rail service to the South Coast

www.amtrak.com

As of November 17, 2004 Amtrak finally began an additional Surfliner service between LA and San Luis Obispo. Many thanks to all of the agencies involved, including CalTrans, SBCAG, and Hannah-Beth Jackson's office.

While the new train arrives in Santa Barbara too late in the morning to be attractive to many commuters, every little bit helps. Does your employer offer a flexible schedule? If so, the service may be helpful to you. You can access the schedules with the link above and save 10% by booking online. If commuting on Amtrak is viable for you remember that a monthly pass is available (search Amtrak's site for "Multi-Ride Passes").

Be sure to think of Amtrak the next time you travel!

What about the future of Amtrak? The President has proposed to bankrupt Amtrak and memebers of CoastalRailNow.org have asked our elected leaders to make sure that Surfliner service would continue in our area should the President's threat of bankruptcy materialize. Below are some links for research into this issue. Let us know your thoughts!!!
